Al Faisal, the 21 year old member of the BWT Lechner Racing Team, had begun the race from P7 but ceded three places running wide to avoid a spinning car before running with the leading pack to the chequered flag. The Omani’s teammate Julien Andlauer finished second overall, Florian Latorre was third and defending champion Michael Ammermüller was sixth.
After the race, Al Faisal said, “It was a good race. I had a good start and I was happy with my pace. I kept with the people ahead and then, when I settled in, (Joey) Mawson spun in front of me. I went off track and lost three positions to finish P11. That was unfortunate, but I think the pace was good. I can take lot of positives from here going to the next round.”
Güven began the race from his first Super Cup pole position with Latorre and Jaxon Evans following in his wake and Al Faisal lined up in seventh position among the 32 starters. Soon Al Faisal slipped to eighth and was then overtaken by Ammermüller as he moved down to ninth.
Al Faisal held firm in ninth behind the defending champion until Ammermüller passed Mikkel Pedersen on lap six and snatched seventh place.
The Omani maintained ninth until lap eight, when he slipped behind Jaap van Lagen and another driver after Mawson spun in front of him.
The fifth round of the Supercup will be held at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany on July 25-27.
