Muscat -

Oman and the US on Sunday signed a defence agreement allowing the latter access to ports and airports in the sultanate.

H E Marc J Sievers, US Ambassador to Oman and Mohammed al Rasbi, Secretary General in Oman’s Ministry of Defence signed the pact.

It reaffirms the commitment to promote mutual security goals and highlights the enduring strength of the Oman-US strategic relationship. “It reflects US support for Oman’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the US Embassy in Oman stated.

The pact aims to strengthen the Oman-US military relations. It will allow the US forces to take advantage of the facilities provided at some of the sultanate’s airports and ports, especially in the Port of Duqm.
