The association announced the details of its programmes in a press conference held at its Ghubra headquarters on Wednesday.
Speaking on this year’s events which will be held under the theme, ‘I Care’, Dr Wahid bin Ali al Kharousi, president, OCA said, the 15th walkathon will be held from 4pm-6.30pm on October 30 at the Qurm park.
“There were less than 300 attendees in the inaugural one but it has grown tremendously, and last year 8,000 people attended. We want this year’s event to be even bigger. This shows cancer survivors and their families that they are not alone. That people are taking time off their busy schedules to meet and do a symbolic walk of 2km.
“This is an important annual landmark event of OCA and has become a much-awaited annual event supporting and addressing all ages of society,” Dr Kharousi said.
The month of October is dedicated to raise awareness nationally and globally for breast cancer and also to remember the victims of breast cancer, their families and to further support and assist in the rehabilitation of the cancer survivors.
OCA annually organises a number of events during this period as part of the Pink Ribbon initiative awareness campaign which culminates with the walkathon which creates awareness on all cancers.
Pink Ribbon initiative
The Pink Ribbon initiative too will be held during the month of October at four malls: Muscat City Centre, Qurum City Centre, Muscat Grand Mall and the Oman Avenues Mall.
As part of the initiative, the association and its volunteers will conduct awareness outreach programmes at the malls.
