Iranian President, H E Alawi discuss safety of navigation in the Gulf region

Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani and H E Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Oman’s Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs on Sunday discussed regional and international issues, especially the efforts being exerted to maintain security and safety of international navigation in the Gulf region.

Earlier, the Iranian President received the Omani delegation at his presidential office in Tehran. During the meeting, H E Alawi conveyed the greetings and best wishes of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to the Iranian President.

On his turn, the Iranian President asked H E Alawi to convey his greetings to His Majesty the Sultan. The Iranian President stressed the importance of maintaining safety of international navigation in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, pointing to the importance of continuous meetings between officials in both the countries.

“The main responsibility to ensure security of the Hormuz Strait lies with Iran and Oman. The Islamic Republic of Iran always tries to make the Sea of Oman, the Gulf, and Strait of Hormuz a safe and reliable route for free international navigation,” said Dr Rouhani on the official Twitter account of the Government of Iran.

During the meeting, they reviewed progress in various fields and means to strengthen them to serve common interests. H E Alawi also met Ali Larijani, Iranian Parliament Speaker. They discussed current international issues, especially the situation in the region.
