Iran begins navy drill off Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s navy began an annual drill on Sunday near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, its first major exercise since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, state television Press TV reported. 

The report quoted navy chief Adm Habibollah Sayyari as saying the two-day manoeuvre, code-named Velayat 95, will cover an area of 2mn sq km in the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean near the strait.

It showed Iranian warships and helicopters taking part in the exercise.

Naval vessels and helicopters have been deployed to carry out missions across the waters.
